Question: What is a Thunder StompBox?
The Thunder StompBox is the original hand crafted wood or Acrylic enclosure which you tap with your foot, hand or drumsticks to provide a rhythm to accompany your acoustic instrument playing both in the studio and in a live situation. Thunder carries many styles of StompBoxes to fit your needs.
Question: How do I know which StompBox to buy?
Wood stompboxes can produce a few slightly different tones due to fact that wood resonates.
Because of this you can produce these tones by tapping on other parts of the stompBox besides the sweet spot. Solid Bass sound but need a bit more adjustment on the amp.
Acrylic StompBoxes are solid acrylic, not a plastic box. They are bit heavier than wood and do not resonate. Solid base sound.
Rolling Thunder - Solid bass sound with the twist of a rough rolling sound plus the solid bass. The wood unit will have some resonance the acrylic will not.
Question: I play with my heel not my toe which is the best StompBox for me.
* BEST: Rolling Thunder with Duel pick-ups for toe and heel
* Thunder Stick in wood or Acrylic
* Thunder Puck
* Original Thunder in Acrylic
will also work for heel players
Question: What makes the sound?
The enclosure has a piezo pick up inside, so guitarists can tap their feet to produce a bass like percussion sound. Different sounds can be produced depending on what part of the box you tap, and different shoes or no shoes will affect tonal output.
Question: Do you make custom Stompboxes?
Yes. We can insert logos and artwork into acrylic stompboxes and stain wood stompboxes to match most types of wood – cherry oak, maple, mahogany ect. Arylic Stompboxes are avaliable in 32 different colors
Question: Can you change the sound?
Yes. You can change the sound by changing the tone controls on you PA, Sub woofer, Bass Amp, or guitar amplifier. You can also you electronic pre-amps to change the sound like the Behringer PB100 Preamp Booster which has a MSRP of $49.95 but can be purchased on this site at a discount with our order.
Question: Can I use my standard Guitar cable with the Stompbox?
Yes. You can use any standard ¼ inch jack guitar cable. If you need to purchase one please check our discount pricing on many popular brand cables.
Question: is there any special setup to using a stomp box?
The Thunder StompBox is simple, and is therefore flexible in it's setup options. The simplest set up is to run it straight into a PA, Sub woofer, Bass Amp, or amplifier. Generally the bigger the amp, the more base sound. Using a EQ or PA and turn down the trebles and mids will produce a deeper sound. The Thunder StompBox comes with a standard jack and some models have adjustable feet to adjust the angle you want to play for setting down or standing while playing.
